We are Perpetual Bloom
Perpetual Bloom Gardening Services is a locally owned company in Greater Portland, Maine, run by Tim and Layne Lessard. We combine a love of plants with professional arboriculture and landscape expertise to design, install, and care for beautiful, sustainable gardens. Our mission is simple: to do what we love while helping people enjoy their everyday surrounding.
Layne
For more than 25 years, my love of gardening has grown from a simple appreciation of nature into a lifelong vocation. While earning my B.S. in Psychology at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, I took a part-time job with a local landscaping company—and was instantly hooked. I loved the variety of each day, the rhythm of the seasons, and the challenge of learning every plant I encountered.
After a year with a large firm, I was offered the opportunity to care for the gardens of a local estate. That experience deepened my connection to the craft and confirmed what I already felt: gardening wasn’t just work I enjoyed—it was my calling. In 2010, after five years of honing my skills, I founded Perpetual Bloom Gardening Services, L.L.C., turning a lifelong passion into a full-time profession.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of exploring many branches of the green world: interior plant design, herbal medicine, soil science, floral design, container gardening, permaculture, vegetable gardening, and edible landscape design. Each new discipline has added depth to my practice and strengthened my relationships with both the land and the people who care for it.
Today, as a Master Gardener registered in Cumberland County and Reiki II certified practitioner, I bring a blend of practical expertise and mindful presence to every project. To me, gardening is about more than plants—it’s about cultivating spaces that nurture, inspire, and sustain life in all its forms.
Tim
My connection to the green world began early, working for my family’s landscaping business in high school. Those formative years gave me a strong foundation in the trade and a deep respect for the plants, trees, and landscapes that shape our lives.
After graduation, I headed west to Boulder, Colorado, where I joined Boulder Tree Company as an arborist. There, I had the privilege of working alongside the president of the National Arborist Society, who became a mentor and taught me the art and science of tree care—from precision pruning and removals to forestry management, fire mitigation, and pest quarantining.
As much as I loved life in the Rockies, I missed the Maine coast, my family, and the community I grew up in. Returning home, I took on a leadership role managing the tree and shrub division of a large New England pest control company. Over the next decade, I immersed myself in Integrated Pest Management, gaining invaluable technical expertise—but found myself missing the creative spark that first inspired me to work outdoors.
That spark returned in 2012, when Layne and I decided to join forces and launch Perpetual Bloom L.L.C. Together, we’ve built a business that blends skill with artistry—rooted in care, craftsmanship, and a shared love of the natural world. Looking back, I couldn’t imagine a more rewarding path.
